BIDMC's Celiac Center
Edie's Story

I’m not going to die—I’m going to live. My health has been transformed.

Donations to support The Celiac Center allow BIDMC to continue their work to make significant advances in the care of patients with celiac disease and gluten sensitive disorders, and to create educational tools to disseminate that knowledge. The generosity of our patients, family members, and friends allows BIDMC to continue transforming the health and quality of life for thousands of patients.

For many people, simply eating a meal can present life-threatening obstacles. Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity now affect one in every 133 people in the United States. Although a diagnosis can provide relief and lead to appropriate therapies, these disorders fundamentally change every patient’s life.
Doctors at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s renowned Celiac Center are working to advance care for patients with celiac disease and other gluten sensitive disorders. Established in 2005, BIDMC is the only multidisciplinary Celiac Center in New England and among the largest in the U.S. The Celiac Center team excels at evaluating patients where a diagnosis is difficult to confirm, and at matching patients with leading-edge clinical trials for therapies that may transform their health or quality of life. Closely tied research programs in state-of-the-art laboratories explore the basis of this class of diseases, and the team of physician-scientists strives to develop new therapeutic options for patients. The Celiac Center also makes it a priority to disseminate their expert knowledge to ensure that every patient’s care providers, no matter where they are located, are educated about symptoms, testing, and treatment for this debilitating class of diseases.
