We’re so grateful for everyone who came to the first annual shopping and networking event on December 1st at the Boston Tennis and Racquet Club. All proceeds are going towards funding a Nurse Practitioner in the Breast Cancer Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
On Thursday, October 22nd more than 130 people gathered at Scullers Jazz Club to enjoy a jazz concert featuring Boston’s own Andy Ezrin and the Grammy Award winning vocal group, The New York Voices. This event was hosted by Andy’s mother, Rickey Ezrin, to celebrate the life of her late-husband, Arthur Ezrin. Over $19,000 was raised to benefit Dr. Roger Lange’s lymphoma research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. We want to thank Rickey and her sons, Peter, Josh, and Andy, as well as Fred Taylor of Scullers Jazz Club, and all of the friends, family, and donors who came out to support this amazing event. Dr Lange said it best, “It was a great night to honor Arthur’s memory and to celebrate his life.”
The 2009 A Reason to Ride bike-a-thon presented by Fuddruckers, held on September 13th, was a huge success! We surpassed our $30,000 fundraising goal by raising a grand total of more than $55,000 to support Dr. Eric Wong’s Brain Tumor Fund to fight cancer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center! More than 200 riders and volunteers came out on Sunday, September 13th, to rally for a cause that touches so many of our lives. It turned out to be a beautiful day for a bike ride! We are so grateful for you. Together, we’ve really gone the extra mile.Thank you to all of our donors, participants, volunteers, and sponsors. We are so grateful for you!
Sisters Against Ovarian Cancer 2nd Annual Step up and Break the Silence Walk 2009
The Sisters Against Ovarian Cancer 2nd annual Step Up and Break the Silence Walk raised more than $50,000 for Dr. Stephen Cannistra, the director of gynecological medical oncology, and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center! On Saturday, September 12, 2009 more than 165 people came together on the rainy September morning for the inspiring 5-mile walk through the Stoneham Zoo.
The 2009 Charity Tennis Tournament presented by the Boston Realty Advisors was a success thanks to our donors and players! The tournament raised $19,000 to benefit the Center for Violence Prevention and Recovery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
A spirited group of 54 players spent the day in round-robin tennis matches on the famed grass courts, the oldest grass courts in the country. The day ended with a championship tournament followed by a cocktail reception. Fun was had by all!

The Robert S. Stoller Golf Tournament
The Robert S. Stoller Golf Tournament, held in honor of Robert S. Stoller, was a great success. The event, held at the Blue Hill Country Club, raised $17,000 to benefit the Dr. Reed Drews’ Cancer Research Fund at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to support work in continuing education and clinical effectiveness in cancer research.
Thank you to the spirited group of 60 players who participated on this special day, and helped to raise money for this important cause.

The David Yurman Jewelry Event
On Tuesday, August 11th more than 100 people attended the David Yurman jewelry event to benefit the Sarcoma Tumor Bank at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The exclusive shopping night, held at the Copley Place Mall, was hosted by Dalia Al-Othman, an osteosarcoma survivor and grateful patient of Mark C. Gebhardt, M.D.
Dalia Al-Othman, who spearheaded the event, spoke eloquently about how grateful she is for the wonderful care she received at BIDMC and for Dr. Gebhardt, chief of orthopaedic surgery, whom she credits with saving her leg—and her life—when she was 12 years old. A portion of the funds raised from the event will help support Dr. Gebhardt’s important work in sarcoma cancer research.
Dr. Gebhardt spoke about how the tumor bank will better facilitate research efforts to fight sarcomas, which are aggressive, malignant tumors of the musculoskeletal system. The Sarcoma Tumor Bank will help accelerate the discovery of biological markers and pathways involved in tumor growth and can lead to the development of new customized drug therapies.
Dr. Gebhardt graciously thanked all those in attendance for their help in making this event a success.

A Reason to Ride 2008
On a sunny Saturday in September, Tom DesFosses, BIDMC patient and brain tumor survivor, found a reason to ride. In the second annual "Reason to Ride" bike-a-thon, DesFosses and more than 100 other cyclists pedaled from the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers across the scenic North Shore of Massachusetts to raise awareness and critical funds for brain tumor research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
On September 6, 2008, more than 170 people participated in the second annual Sisters Against Ovarian Cancer walk, Step Up and Break the Silence.
Walkers and family members gathered at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, MA, in specially designed T-shirts to raise awareness and funds for BIDMC's Dr. Stephen Cannistra and his Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
On July 28, Veroxity Technology Partners of Bedford, MA, tee'd up to benefit the Klarman Family Newborn Intensive Care Unit at BIDMC at the annual Veroxity Charity Golf Tournament. Now in its 15th year of operation, the Klarman Family Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center provides state-of-the-art, family-centered care for over 1,200 high-risk newborns and their families each year. As a Level III nursery, the Klarman Family Newborn Intensive Care Unit has the finest expertise and utilizes the latest technology and equipment to care for the most fragile and imperiled newborns.
On June 16, BIDMC physicians, researchers, friends, and donors gathered at Fenway Park to celebrate the winning team of clinicians and researchers that make up Neuroscience Center. This highly collaborative team of neuroscience physicians and scientists are breaking all kinds of records in their field.
