BIDMC for Haiti Relief
Total amount raised by BIDMC to Date:
$38,227.00
On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, more than 3 million people in Haiti—about a third of this country’s population—were affected by a catastrophic earthquake that has left untold numbers of dead and injured in its wake. Amidst all of the devastating accounts of loss and heartache, we hear amazing stories of how people have stepped forward to help the earthquake’s victims. Medical personnel from organizations across the globe – including staff from BIDMC - have arrived en force to help those suffering. Medical supplies, food, and water are also making their way to Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas. The needs of the Haitian people will change over time, but will require ongoing support from others.
In times like these, we are reminded how grateful we are for our everyday lives – and for our capacity to care for those in need and act upon that caring. Here at BIDMC, our staff has taken this activity to another level. Several departments have started a Haitian Donation Race and would like other departments to join this friendly competition.
What is the Haitian Donation Competition?
A friendly competition between departments at BIDMC to raise funds for earthquake relief in Haiti.
How do I Participate?
Individuals or departments can follow a few simple steps to participate:
- Start a Team by clicking on the button on the left. Once the team is formed you can then use the tools built into Grateful Nation to send
e-mails to co-workers, friends and family and ask for their support of
this deserving cause. Donations that are made online will be reflected
on the team page. Each team page will feature a thermometer that tracks
donations as well as a scrolling feature that shows the donors by name.
- Join a team or search for an existing team and fundraise on the team's behalf.
- Support a team to make a gift directly to the cause while supporting the team of your choice.
Can we take donations offline?
Of course. If someone prefers to donate offline to this fund, send a check or money order to BIDMC Office of Development, 330 Brookline Avenue (BR), Boston, MA 02215. Please make check payable to BIDMC and write Haitian Earthquake Relief Fund in the memo line.
How is the winner selected?
The team that collects the highest number of donations will win (this means the number of individual donations and not the highest dollar amount).
Where will the funds from the Haitian Donation Competition be directed?
Funds raised during the Haitian Donation Race will go to the Grateful Nation for Haitian Earthquake Relief Fund that was created through BIDMC and Grateful Nation in the days immediately following the earthquake. The funds will be split between Partners in Health, a Boston-based non-profit that has worked on the ground in Haiti for nearly 25 years and is currently treating the wounded in a field hospital, and BIDMC staff providing relief services in Haiti and other Harvard affiliated hospitals.
