HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS AT BIDMC

Enchanted Village Event Draws Thousands

Giving the Gift of Music

Gift of Music

On Monday, December 14th, 2009 BIDMC patients, staff, and visitors were treated to the beautiful musical offerings of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and a brass quintet from the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The chorus, which performed in the Shapiro lobby on the East Campus, dazzled listeners with a selection of upbeat holiday songs. The brass quintet played a delightful arrangement in the West Campus Clinical Center lobby.

Earlier this fall, BIDMC was the Underwriting Sponsor of Opening Night at Boston Symphony Orchestra. This was made possible through the generosity of five Grateful Nation members and their families. These holiday performances were one of the benefits of this sponsorship. We would like to thank the Boston Symphony Orchestra and all of the singers and musicians who generously donated their time and talents to brighten our holiday season. What a gift!

 Enchanted Village Event Draws Thousands

Enchanted Village

Earlier last year, many heard in the news that Jordan's Furniture had purchased the Enchanted Village that for generations had signaled the beginning of the holiday season at the former Jordan Marsh location in Boston.  Imagine our delight when a few months later Eliot Tatelman and Jordan’s Furniture donated this festive holiday experience to BIDMC for an employee gathering?!?

As a friend of Grateful Nation – and in appreciation for the wonderful care his family and friends have received at BIDMC – Tatelman and the staff from Jordan’s Furniture in Avon treated more than 2,000 BIDMC staff and family members to a taste of the holidays and opened the doors of its Enchanted Village for a private event on December 6th, 2009.

Many BIDMC employees and families members turned out to enjoy the 8,000 square foot display featuring holiday scenes with children, horses, bears and other animals created by toy makers in Bavaria.

For Pat Henderson, Physician Liaison, Network Development, taking her granddaughters to the Enchanted Village brought back childhood memories (photo above).

“It was so great to be able to share the same tradition that I had when I was a little girl,” she said. “This was something that my mom and I did until I was 12 years old; it brought back great memories. It was fantastic.”
