Q & A with... Dr. Stephen Cannistra
Q. What is your role at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center?
A. As the director of gynecologic medical oncology at BIDMC, I primarily care for patients with gynecologic cancers. In addition to multidisciplinary patient care, my program offers patients the opportunity to participate in several clinical trials that test innovative therapies with challenging diseases like ovarian cancer. I also conduct research to better understand the genetic underpinnings of gynecologic cancers, particularly ovarian cancer.

More than ten years ago, fate handed Sheldon Simon a cause he was meant to support. In 1998, his wife, Amy, the mother of his two young daughters was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer. The news was devastating; little was known about the disease, and the success of treatment so late in the game was slim.
