What is A Reason to Ride presented by Fuddruckers?
A Reason to Ride is a bike-a-thon founded in 2008 by brain cancer survivor and grateful patient Tom DesFosses. Now in its fourth year, hundreds of riders and volunteers will rally together on Sunday, September 18, 2011, to raise crucial funds needed for cancer care and research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Why am I riding?
Six years ago, I was a mother to a 3 month old girl when I was diagnosed with a grade II brain tumor. Brain tumor is a scarey combination of words that, to someone who hasn't been through it, typically thinks of as meaning death. My world stopped as I imagined my little Hailey growing up without a mother and for myself, I couldn't imagine being around long enough to hear the word Mommy come out of her mouth. The last 6 years has brought both joys and setbacks; through it all I am grateful to Beth Israel for ultimately giving me the opportunities that make my life so wonderful today! My story goes like this: diagnosis, brain surgery (my first operation ever...because when I go, I go BIG!), one year of stable MRIs, the blessing of my daughter Hannah (an event that seemed impossible after hearing brain tumor), tumor recurrence, another surgery, paralysis of left arm, rehabilitation, 3 month follow up appointments, graduation to 4 month follow ups, and....drum roll please....I am currently getting follow up appointments every 6 months. This ride is so special to me because all funds raised through A Reason to Ride presented by Fuddruckers will go directly to my doctor, Dr. Eric Wong's Brain Tumor Fund.
Why support me or my team?
I can not do it alone, but together we can make a difference. Our support can impact the development of new treatments, enhance patient care, and ultimately find a cure for cancer. This cause is so personal to my family and I. My life is so good now due to research of the past. Current research and development of new treatments could mean everything for my future and the futures of so many other patients blindsided by such a diagnosis. Your donation, in any amount, will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your continued support! My family and I are looking forward to our second year at this event
