About the Center
In the Parkinson’s Disease Center at BIDMC, an interdiscipilinary team of neurologists, other physician specialists, social workers, nurses, and rehabilitation specialists provide specialized care for patients affected by Parkinson’s. In recognition of The Center’s multi-faceted work, the National Parkinson Foundation designated it as a national “Parkinson’s Disease Center of Excellence.” There is increasing evidence that novel exercise and fitness programs that capture the interest and enthusiasm of patientswith Parkinson’s disease have been successful in improving their well being. Some examples include programs in dance, yoga, Tai Chi, the Nintendo Wii gaming system and music. The Medical Center would like to begin offering a regular six-to-eight week series of some or all of these programs to BIDMC patients with Parkinson’s and other patients in the Boston area who wish to participate.
